Pre-assessment Survey Results:
19 students participated in the first survey given out on January 12th. We had not started our Physical Literacy education at this point, thus the students had little to no information, other than their prior knowledge. The results on the survey were:
1. 10/19 students scored either 1 or 2, showing they they did not have a good understanding on what physical literacy meant.
2. 12/19 students scored a 5, demonstrating that the majority is confident in their physical activity skills.
3. 12/19 students scored either a 3 or 4, which I think shows that they are undecided if physical activity has helped them become a leader. They also may have not fully understood the question or the connection between leadership skills and their physical activity level.
4. 11/19 students scored a 4 or 5, demonstrating that they believe that participating in physical activities have helped them become more responsible.
5. 10/19 students scored a 4 or 5, demonstrating that they believe that physical activity has made them more accountable.
6. 10/19 students scored a 4 or 5, showing that the majority realizes that physical activity often uses problem solving skills, thus making those skills stronger with more physical activity.
7. 11/19 students scored a 1 or 2, demonstrating that they do not believe that they can build communication skills through participating in physical activities.
8. 19/19 students scored a 5, therefore they all have made the connection that physical activities often involve teamwork, thus they have built strong teamwork skills by participating in these activities.
9. To my surprise, 10/19 students scored a 1 or 2 on this question, thus they do not think that they focus better in class after participating in physical activities.

Mid-point Survey Results:
19 students participated in the mid-survey given out on February 15th. We have had about 4 Fridays of Physical Literacy education at this point, thus the students had more information on the topic. The survey given had the same questions as the pre-assessment survey. The results on the survey were:
1. 17/19 students scored either 4 or 5, showing they are confident in their understanding on what physical literacy means.
2. 17/19 students scored a 4 or 5, demonstrating that the majority is confident in their physical activity skills. Being that this amount has increased since the first survey, students are feeling more confident in their physical activity skills after having more knowledge on Physical Literacy and knowing that gym class is not just about ability.
3. 13/19 students scored either a 3 or 4, which shows that they are still undecided if physical activity has helped them become a leader. Thus, I need to incorporate more activities that will show that physical activity does involve leadership skills.
4. 15/19 students scored a 3 or 4, demonstrating that they are undecided about how participating in physical activities has helped them become more responsible.
5. 15/19 students scored a 4 or 5, demonstrating that they believe that physical activity has made them more accountable. I am not surprised by this result, we have spoken a lot about accountability, thus I was expecting an increase on this survey.
6. 14/19 students scored a 4 or 5, showing an increase in the realization that physical activity often uses problem solving skills, thus making those skills stronger with more physical activity.
7. 17/19 students scored a 4 or 5, showing a large increase in the students believing that they can build communication skills through participating in physical activities. We have talked a lot in our Friday chats about how communication doesn't just involve face to face conversation.
8. 19/19 students scored a 5, thus they still realize that physical activities often involve teamwork.
9. 18/19 students scored a 1 or 2 on this question, showing that they do not think that they focus better in class after participating in physical activities.

Final Survey Results
19 students participated in the final survey given on March 21st. The survey given at this time was a short answer format, consisting of similar questions as is on the past surveys, however the short answer format provides a better opportunity for the students to show what they have learned. Refer to the Basic Plan page to see a copy of this survey.
For questions 1-7, 19/19 students showed that they have a great understanding of Physical Literacy, and the leadership skills that it promotes. As well, they were able to identify how they gained these skills! The following quotes were provided by the students on the final survey, and they all gave me permission to post them.
- "Physical Literacy is something that gives us and lets us practice skills that we can use every day."
- "Physical Literacy is when you use different body parts to do movements and knowing how you can use these movements in everyday life."
- "Physical Literacy is something that gives us confidence in our movements."
-"One way that my increased physical literacy has helped to improve our leadership skills is it has helped us synergize as a gym class."
-"One way that my increased physical literacy has helped to improve our leadership skills is that it has taught me that even though gym is not my best subject I can lead a group because I know the basic movements."
-"One way that my increased physical literacy has made me more accountable is I don't get mad when I lose."
-"One way that my increased physical literacy has made me more accountable is that I play by the rules always. I know that if I lose it doesn't mean I suck at gym."
-"One way that my increased physical literacy has helped my teamwork skills is I know that we need to communicate because it will help us work better together."
-"Other leadership skills that I have learned are used in physical literacy and physical activity are responsibility."
-"Other leadership skills that I have learned are used in physical literacy and physical activity are confidence in your movements."
-""Other leadership skills that I have learned are used in physical literacy and physical activity are having fun and letting loose is much better than being very competitive."
My final question on the survey was yet again about if they have an easier time focussing in the classroom after gym class. Yet again, the results came back the same as the past two surveys. Thus, my suggestion of starting the following class of with a movement learning activity will help the transition from gym class to a core subject.
